My name is Jamie Hays. I have been captivated by the arts since I was a little girl. I started dancing and learning gymnastics at age 3 at the fabulous Winslow Stars Dance Studio. It was (and still is!) owned by my mother, who is an amazing lady. I had the opportunity to travel all over the country to compete and perform. I won both regional and national titles in Jazz and Contemporary solo competitions. After graduating high school, I went on to pursue dance in college, at Arizona State University. I moved back to Northern Arizona and continued to teach and choreograph (my true passion!) I discovered that I loved teaching more than competing. I have been teaching Jazz, Ballet, Modern, and Gymnastics for 13 years now. Due to my husband's job, I have traveled and loved continuing my dance education. I had the opportunity to train with the Pittsburgh Ballet Company in the adult division during my 4 years spent in Pennsylvania. My favorite thing to teach is modern and lyrical. The more creative and unique I am allowed to get with choreography the better! I also LOVE turns. If I could go to class and do pirouettes and foutes the entire class, that would be just fine with me!
As far as piano goes, I started taking lessons when I was 5. Thanks to persistent parents and dedicated teachers that 'made' me practice and wouldn't let me quit, I developed a love of music. I have an extensive background in music theory, as well as the traditional method of teaching. I love to teach baroque, modern, classical and romantic periods of music, but my heart lies in the realm of contemporary pieces. I especially love John Schmidt. I could listen to his music all day and I relish sitting down at the piano to hash out all the arpeggios and chords to really dig in and learn his compositions!I am so happy to be in Colorado Springs and share my love of dance and piano with all of you!
